What will you do?

In the role of Product Development Engineer at Alfen, you will focus on developing and enhancing advanced solutions for the energy transition. You will be working on cutting-edge technologies such as fast-charging stationsenergy storage systems, and smart grids. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, you will tackle technical challenges and deliver high-quality, reliable solutions that meet our customers' needs and market demands.

In this role, you will focus on our product line energy storage systems (ESS) and contribute to the mechanical development and component integration of future products, parts, and systems from concept to mass production and market introduction.

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Structural and Thermal Analysis:
    • Conduct structural assessments (FEM analysis) and testing, with a strong understanding of structural assessment for metal and plastic parts.
    • Perform CFD assessment and thermal analysis, understanding thermal analysis for electrical systems and general air-cooled and liquid-cooled systems.
    • Develop test plans to evaluate designs as per norms and standards together with our test & compliance department (e.g. noise, vibration etc).
  • Technology Development:
    • Participate in research & Technology studies for the battery department and implement new ideas for product improvement.
  • Mechanical Development and Integration:
    • Develop products, systems, and parts that meet established requirements, ensuring usability, maintainability, transportability, manufacturability, and fire safety.
    • Size components according to load cases, selecting appropriate materials (primarily sheet metal, weldments, machined parts in metal and plastic).
    • Document designs using full 3D & 2D definitions and Bill of Materials.
    • Perform detailed product development using tools such as tolerance analysis, dFMEA, and DfX (DfM/DfA).

What are we looking for?

You are a motivated, creative, and initiative-driven individual who knows how to translate user and commercial requirements into innovative, highly integrated products. You are not afraid to ask questions and are eager to learn new things. To be a good match, your resume should demonstrate:

  • 3+ years of experience with a Master degree in Sustainable Energy Technology or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of FEM analysis software (Ansys Workbench, Hyperworks, Creo) and CFD assessment software.
  • Ability to manage your own workload and schedule tasks effectively.
  • Experience in sizing and designing structures with appropriate material usage and production methods (sheet metal, machining).
  • Skills to create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings suitable for mass production and quality control (preferably using Creo, but experience with SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, or NX is also acceptable).
  • Experience with product data management (PDM/PLM) software, with Windchill preferred.
  • Experience with the integration of power electronics is a plus.
