What will you do?

As a Software Engineer ESS at Alfen, you will have the opportunity to apply your technical skills to develop, test, and maintain high-quality software for our energy storage systems (TheBattery). Whether your expertise lies in Embedded Systems, Application Programming, Fullstack, Frontend, Backend, Data Engineering, or Infrastructure, you will be working on projects that truly make a difference.

Collaborating with colleagues from various disciplines—such as Product Development, Testing & Compliance, Service, and Operations—you will contribute to innovative and scalable software solutions that align with our customers' needs and our vision for a sustainable future. Your responsibilities will include:

Analysis and Development

  • Analyze product and design requirements and translate them into software implementations.
  • Develop, program, and enhance software for control, monitoring, and testing purposes.

Quality and Testing

  • Ensure designs meet requirements and perform software tests.
  • Implement improvements based on feedback.

Collaboration and Support

  • Actively participate in a multidisciplinary Scrum team.
  • Support prototypes and provide assistance to production, service, and test engineering.

Innovation and Knowledge Sharing

  • Explore new techniques and share insights within the team.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to optimize products.

Documentation

  • Document software designs and create technical documentation.
  • Use diagrams to clarify concepts.

Safety

  • Adhere to quality and safety standards according to QHSE procedures

 What are we looking for?

We are seeking a software professional with a hands-on, results-driven, and structured approach. Someone who communicates effectively at all levels and gains support for technical solutions and innovations. Additionally:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree (HBO/WO), preferably in a technical or science-related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience with both front-end and back-end development.
  • Proven expertise in programming languages such as C, C++, and Python.
  • Relevant Linux and networking knowledge.
  • Experience with system integration, including knowledge of networks and/or affinity with energy storage systems, grid codes, and grid balancing.
  • Familiarity with scalable and redundant systems.
  • Experience with the Scrum/Agile methodology.
  • Excellent proficiency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
